Such is the enormity of saying
goodbye
to a time-honoured love,
that oceans of heartache could never
contain
the unmeasured flood
of immaculate pain needed before
letting go.

sonetta this brings to mind my favorite song of all time "How Deep is the Ocean" by Irving Berlin, and I quote this part..... "And if I ever lost you, how much would I cry? How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky..."
Karin Anderson I saw a quote the other day 'To find the rainbow you need to feel the rain', and I could relate to this and your poem so well. 'oceans of heartache and unmeasured flood' are profound images, and your words need no more explanations, as this poem stands alone in with the power of these images. The photo is excellent too!
Susan Jarvis You have said everything in a few beautifully chosen words and finely crafted lines - graceful and heartfelt. :)

Carl Harris A very touching and heart-wrenching poem, Fay. Parting after a long relationship is never a "sweet sorrow" as some bards have said, but an ordeal of pain and frustration whose scars last for years. You expressed that vividly in this fine poem. Carl.
