If you haven't seen www.poetfreak.com/text/127223/with-love-to.html you may need to look at it now. The sonnet below borrows its first line as well as the last words of the rest of the lines, and is by way of being a reply to the original.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
While we may never see quite eye to eye
we share our fervent love of poetry.
You feel more bound by rules, I feel more free.
I will say Yes where you perhaps say Aye.
We have our differences, and though I try
and beg you write more freely, still my pleas
fall on deaf ears. Alas, I fear that these
new lines may do the same, and make you sigh.
But poetry can make friendships, even though
there seems to be a gulf twixt me and you,
and in that ocean tides will ebb and flow.
I still recall your hesitant debut,
but are you still as hesitant? Oh, no!
And sonneteers like Jenny are but few.
Very well presented Paul showing the differences between two poets, but having respect as well. I love the humor and Jenny's response too. I must go and read some of Jenny's sonnets as I like quite a bit of time to savor them fully and then I tend to forget. There is always something of great interest on Poetfreak and you both succeed with your sonnets.
