Loneliest Time Of The Year

Christmas is the loneliest time of the year
as we remember those whom have passed along
and can never again be near.
An empty stocking on the fireplace
where a filled one should be,
the vacant place under the tree
where presents should be,
The empty space in our hearts
we carry with us all the time
and sadness lines our faces
that should be filled with smiles.
Christmas should be a time of celebration,
but with the empty spaces
there is no cheer here
in the loneliest time of the year.

this is true, but we still have to be thoughtful of our love ones still with us. I want all of them to be happy at Christmas.

I know this feeling well. Luckily there are alternatives to spending the holiday alone. An effective write. tfs

Good poem and balances out the tendency for myopic cheeriness...even lonelier is the sight of someone for whom no-one waits... those who have no family or friends to hug them...

This is happening to many people, I pray souls find each other and not be lonely. Blessings!

If not happy for you...make it a bit happier for someone. Doing so you'll find the true meaning of Christmas; and lonliness will be forgotten in their smile.
