Wasted Time

like smoldering ashes of a fire

swirling in the night

these thoughts of the past

burn in my mind

youthful memories

that stagnate in time

the temptation of one so cold

a vengeful storm waiting to collide

with the breaking of hearts and lives

the fire blazes faster

and consumes all it touches

until its last dying flame

a new light on the horizin

seems warm and tender

softly caressing all it touches

through time it slowly fades away to expose

the terrible lies that hide beneath

the truth revealed

these ugly creatures

mascarading as beautiful butterflies

are scattered in the wind

they fool the eyes

they fool the heart

and all they return is wasted time

Incisive, to say the least, and somewhat reminiscent of a message left for those foolish enough to follow in the writer’s footsteps.
