A Soldier's Dream my father wrote this

A soldier dreams of those he loves,
of all the folks and friends he left behind.
He wants them watched by God above,
and take these troubled times as kind.

He wants them safe, so when he comes home
they will be waiting with open arms,
just like we all read about in poems,
so, when he walks in, they will all be calm.

I know a soldier has to fight
and get the enemies all uptight.
But he only does it to protect his loved ones
so his children’s children won’t have to fight.

When darkness falls and it’s time for bed,
he says a prayer for all you sleeping heads,
and blesses Mom, Dad, and family too.
And, may God watch down over all of you.
