We anxiously awaited
the start of the spoken recital.
I watched as you graciously approached
the podium when your name was announced.
You gave the title of the piece
you were to present to us.
I thought it sounded political.
Two poetically sounding phrases
formed the first sentence.
Very nice.
I pictured the image in my head.
Two more sweet sounding phrases
made your second sentence.
Very nice too.
But, the two wordy scenes
made no sense together.
You quickly hurled another phrase at us
that sounded equally as nice to the ear.
But, what was it’s connection
to the previous phrase?
Or the following five
that you bombarded us with?
I was mystified.
And from the expressions on the faces
of my fellow listeners – so were they.
But you intensified your assault on us
with nice sounding phrases
that became quite surreal
as you verbally attacked us.
You threw out phrase after phrase after phrase
as though it was all so very profound
and filled with deep meaning.
Unfortunately, in the end, all you gave us was senseless drivel.
