(untitled #55)

The seemingly luminescent sky
shines down with an eerie gray glow.
Colors appears saturated – more intense.
Dark clouds move in slowly and hover.
They threaten us with a soaking.
The crash of loud thunder and streaks of lightening
bring the threat too close to home.
I just look up to listen and smile.
The thunder and lightening
combined with the smell in the air
has always had a special effect on me.
As long as I can remember
I had to be a part of it.
If not out in it,
then at least watching and listening from the porch.
I’ve always had a fascination with it.
A fascination
that I could never explain
even to myself.
I just need to be there.
Drops of water
sporadically touch ground.
Wind picks up.
While others open umbrellas
I open my arms in praise and delight.
Luminescent sky
dark with rain
showers joy on Earth.
