I See Through You

Services rendered with a full on plastic smile
Time given falsely, hating it all the while
This you settled for to earn all your pay
If you'd have finished school
You wouldn't have to live this way

It goes against the grain of all you've been told
You thought you'd be protected until you were old
It ain't something you could avoid anyway
Their populations are growing
They're increasing everyday

You smile, grin and put up with it in contempt
You thought your kind were actually exempt
Your leaders preach hatred in all that they say
If you'd only finished college
You would have it your way

Hidden agendas, lies regurgitate deceit
When asked about your ideals, you shuffle feet
You hide your truth that you want to say
If you would have been educated
Your truth would come into play

"Ignorance is bliss" is a dog-eared aphorism but, if you notice, it never specifies bliss for whom.
