08/07/11: Like Mother, Like Son by mahriclairebeere

when instinct flows free~~~

There are many fine educators, however, not all...Remember the carefree days before a child's natural creative expression was curtailed by well-meaning authority figures...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
before marauders
covered the landscape
with sepia tones
all shone brilliantly...
canvases emerged
with paintings superb
hidden books enjoyed
that critics abhorred
movement flowed freely
dancing on the kerb
quirky outfits donned
clearly much adored
then all simply ceased...
contaminated
by sundry experts
as if by stern nod
of heartless preacher
joyful interludes
now lost to fresh hurts...
when instinct flowed free
'twas the best teacher
allowing heart's play
an innocent child's feast
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Truth you speak, dressed so delicately in sweetness. Can't agree more. More and more preachers to spoil the broth.

The disturbing curiosity is that those days in a very real sense led to these, hence have something lurking in their seeming charm to corrupt their endurance and loveliness. Or mayhap it was overthrown by a stronger, cruel hand? Beautiful arrangement in couplets, one-liners and tercet. Thought-provoking tribute to now and then. Awesome imagery.

I find it is a shame when innocence is destroyed in the young. After all we should always keep the child in ourselves....the one that enjoys life's beauty without question....the fun the play...the happiness .... our reason to be here. Wise words Robyn you are a fine poet and a caring lady.

True,to any child lessons shall be taught with love but in such a delicate way as not to destroy the instinct.Instinct may bring the freedom's beauty in pure form as I think you say here . Now,you are right we have great trouble, our instincts are loosened up and critics, preachers ,schools, instead of helping out, to resist, do nothing but give a hand. Can't say of me, a parent to do much better..Great poem it rings the bell, thank you!

Well spoken. The upside is naysayers always lose, eventually. Downside is the valuable time and opportunity lost before they do.
