Pain Barrier

Please stay away
dark winter mornings
when alarm clocks go off
like air raid warnings
when I must stumble
through the valley of indecision
as to whether
there is an obstruction there
and if so,
in what position,
where is the bed post,
where is the chair...?
As my tired eyes stare in vain
for a light on the horizon
through the pane barrier
of the double-glazed window
and discern only
the inverted question mark of Leo,
having successfully chased
the hunter out of the sky,
residing in brief glory
in the slowly lightening dawn.
Indeed…why?

I sigh, ……
sandy-eyed and forlorn.
Standing bed-warm
and naked in the window,
safe in the knowledge
that I am, as yet, modest
and invisible behind the net,
I count the days to retirement
even though I know the answer
is a reprimanding ‘not yet’.
Now...cut along, you lazy fellow...
Work awaits you.

how well you capture such moments... that bitter-sweet knowing that one is in transition time and it doesn't always feel great

Excellent penning in this well thought out poem, Kev. The changing of the clocks today announced that Winter has arrived. You have etched your feelings in both finesse and style, through the vivid visual detail in the poem, which I have so enjoyed reading. Your skilled pen has lost none of it's fire, Kev, as this shining example of your enormous talent proudly displays. Thank you for sharing. Blessings always.....
