poetfreak's new look is terrible!!!

i think this current look sucks. it has no taste, no grace, and it's been done with not understanding design. yes i do understand design. rather well. will a couple of one show pencils, and cannes lions suffice as credentials? please go back to the earlier look. this layout is all wonky. the font is not good. and if you didn't understand poets, all of us like the familiarity of the canvas. we may write a billion things, but our paper, font, ink, look needs to be the same. personally i am compelled not to write anymore. my words look bad. and that i can't take.

We all take time to get use to change ! It took me a few days only ! But I do hope that this new format will stop people like "Clone" ,who had been posting anoymous remarks in the past ! Thanks !

Basically, it's a matter of "don't fix what ain't broke" and "replace the old with something new " if you are sure the old has become dusty, dated and obsolete and the new is infinitely better as a replacement.

@tom you are right about the waiting till the last bit. it works so well with poetry. u never know where the words will take you. on the other hand, visual design doesn't need you to wait till it is constructed. your eyes fill up the blanks. which is why architects and artists and everyone else works with scribbles and thumbnails. the way this is looking now, needs no more details to tell me where this titanic is going. iceberg yonder!

It takes some getting used to I admit, but I keep telling myself we have our friends and perhaps it will improve. I remember with Poemhunter went to a smaller print to put on advertisements our poetry looked really insignificant but I got used to this eventually. Let's hope it gets better than this!

I agree Prathap we could have been taken in confidence. Who knows what are the management's compulsions. Of course, since we all consider pf a goood platform to share thoughts, it's family. I too squirm at changes, but then it has become a norm in life and otherwise. Through it all I see you have retained your sense of humour. I too sometimes tell my children don't think am shock proof and can deal with their quirks, decisions and radical choices. one thing, at last we meet. Premji told me so much about you.

Well, to each his own. To judge only completed things would have to be very time-consuming and one would necessarily miss out on much that may be worthy of consideration. The extent of observation required in order to consider a preliminary judgment is determined by many factors. Not the least being the ability to utilise a substantial modicum of perceptive ability.

The e-book download is a great idea, ref your earlier comment when I judge a poem I read the whole work not just the first line and decide it´s rubbish, I judge it when I have read it all.

Rather than fiddling with what's working management should look into offering an e-book/download facility, something useful.

No Tom, a fool has other priorities. To judge a work in progress is a sign of a critical and analytical mind. Here, it is clear to the undersigned that change was neither necessary nor will the end result be welcome.

You're overreacting. The old look was definitely good, but I'm ready for changes. I'm happy I still got this palette to paint my thoughts.

We will see if it improves...

mamta, for change to happen, there ought to be a need. more than that, when change is going to affect all of us and our nerves, atleast it could have been suggested? or discusses? or asked? after all this is the era of true social-ism, when all of get to engage and participate? change cannot be happen like the sun decides to be blue all of a sudden. it irks. gets ur goat and lamb. hehe.

i think the earlier look had a certain specialness. the font especially. the leading, the kerning, everything was encouraging the writer. as they say, we who write don't write words, we write visuals with the alphabet. and when that starts to look tardy, the reaction is almost violent. it's like being betrayed by your own page. the colours, the texture, the tone, everything changes. maybe i am over-reacting, but i am very sensitive to the aesthetics of the written word. so much of angst.

all of us resist change which is inevitable; it causes discomfort because one gets used to doing things in a certain way. I personally feel we as poets should show more sensitivity, after all poetfreak has all along since I strated posting work, meeting friends, making new ones whom I cherish deserves to be given a chance to get it all right. A low frustration tolerance which has taken epidemic proportions would help no one. Aren't we as poets always recommending change in our work be it in society, values and so on. I had not been able to login for over a month, didn't even have clue about all this happening. Let's all be patient and not abandon the site in a hurry. As Fay and Sandra point out the management is looking into it.

Pleas do not leave in a hurry Prathap. Johannes is on the job still - do await the final outcome

I can feel your sentiment and I agree it doesn't look good.

The mangagement are promising to work on it Prath - - and today I notice it has been adjusted again - - why it was altered remains a mystery to me - - but am willing to wait for the outcome a bit longer......... it is irksome in that we are not getting notification by email of any comments or messages from Poetfreak site - -- that has me at a loss and I have complained as the alternative is to plough through my latest postings . Oh I do so agree that we as poets like our materials to stay without change............. please do think again on your decision not to write here my friend - - you will be missed.

The font looks more beautiful now. We have to wait for the final look though.
