Smiles and Similes

We may drink
like a fish or
eat like a pig,
Be as fat as a walrus
or as thin as a stick
Swear like a trooper
Smoke like a chimney;
Be as fresh as a daisy
Be as sporting as Wembley
As keen as mustard
Annoying as red tape
As dull as ditchwater
As sour as a grape
As poor as a church mouse
As rich as Croesus
As bright as a penny
As lovely as Jesus
As cunning as a fox
As dead as a dodo
As sharp as a pin
Up and down
like a yoyo
As sweet as sugar
As proud as punch
As dry as a desert
As welcome as….
lunch?

Yes, a human
can be many things
to many people…
However
– unsurprisingly –
there are no similes
for words such as…
Polite,
Courteous,
Compassionate,
Honourable…
These qualities are too few
and far apart, it seems.
For instance,
Just imagine saying:
“As humane as humanity”
Just wouldn’t work,
would it?!

A worthy write indeed to highlight the many things humans can be - and the finale' is so clever an addition Kev. -- wise messages run through this wonderful verse.

Hmmmph...As humane as humanity? That certainly would be wonderful! The liked the way words skittered around easily, ahem as a knife that cuts through butter!
