Statistics

The statistician who, out duck-shooting,
gave one both barrels
and missed
- the first shot slightly to the left
and the second slightly to the right -
consoled himself
by calculating that
on average
he had hit the duck.
You can prove anything,
they say,
with statistics,
but when I kissed you
on both cheeks
it was not proved
to my satisfaction
that on average
I had kissed your lips.

How sublime this poem is - how subtley it reveals how paltry statistics are when it comes to feelings. Bookmarked to read again with delight at your sheer cleverness! :) kath xxx

Ha ha - well that is certainly one way of measuring a missed target with that peck on both cheeks my friend. Good read.
