Sleeping Boy

No, do not wake the sleeping child,
Not now, not tomorrow, not ever.
Let him sleep on, lost in dreams,
The happy fantasies of never-never land.

No, do not wake this sleeping child,
Let him continue his fine dreams,
Unaware that in these wee hours of morning
His Blue Knight father lies fallen victim
To a lonely criminal's fear spent bullets
In a senseless shooting over a drug-fed,
Pathetic crime, the theft of eight dollars
From an impoverished rag-picker who tread
Dismal ghetto streets in a futile search
For a bright and better life tomorrow.

Dream on, sleeping boy, this strange life
Will sit heavy on your frail shoulders and
Curly head come the approaching dawn.
No, do not wake the sleeping child,
Not now, not tomorrow, not ever.

Fantastic! Hope that he never dreams Wars in his sound sleep? Most of my sleeps I am awake to the bombings!

A classic lament Carl - so beautifully expressed. The pace of the read brings out the full meaning of tragedy and the repeats add power to the needed message.

Sleep has become rare for many! Children are innocent and get good sleep. At least their sleep should not disturbed! Wonderful poem to read!
