In the 'land down under,' called Australia by the white man, a sub-culture of indigenous peoples, once superbly connected to this unique landscape, languish in remote settlements, struggling to remember their identity.

sun sets fire to uluru by PeterJosef

Uluru Dreaming

stories of dreamtime
long since lost for ‘murray’ man
split from his culture

caught 'tween white and black
inebriated stupor
robbing dignity

where is the fire
a spirit once ignited
standing tall and proud

Such a sad story depicted so well in your poem, Uluru such a big meaning to Aboriginals. I had the pleasure to have a champagne dinner served by waiters outdoors next to Uluru then an astrologist explained the stars above the rock which stands tall and proud for them...regards

The fire IS, yet who is willing to suffer long? "a mutant message from down under", a testimony of a woman's journey in and thru such fire. the simplicity of spirit ignites the fire that reveals life as it should be. not destructive, in harmony with needs not wants.

very nice work--in the USA, we have the indigenous people we displaced as well--sadly, I don't think many are writing poems about their dreamy spirit--you did well with this

I've always admired the aboriginal people down under. In the U.S., Native Americans share a similar history and are experiencing many of the same things. Beautifully and well written.

Wandering as an outcast in their ancestor's lands, trying to find their identity in the past, what a miserable condition. How very sad for them. How beautifully this conveys it, short and bittersweetly, in tercets.

This is true for many lands... in India too there are many tribes and - yes, indigenous people - waning with time... A Lot of things are waning with them, knowledge and culture foremost.. beautifully written work, Robyn... :)

Sadly, so many treasures we have lost over the centuries we humans haunted gold and diamonds never thought that those cannot be lost while cultures even now we see how quickly do melt not much difference than the day one if I may say..One of the greatest bells to ring in such a beautiful way, thank you for raising attention .

A wonderful picture to accompany this piece, it's quite a sad situation when cultures disappear
