Nurse Tree

The invisible nurse tree is called
for what it used to be
before that rainy night when
howling wind and water sheets
spun and tore it from its moorings.

The tortured roots of Bigleaf Maples
shaped in hollow colonnades where
they had nursed for two score seasons
on a once proud hemlock
brutally humbled to the forest floor
and now consumed by elemental time.

It's Mother Gaia's perpetual story -
present trees are yesterday's death
which in time l bequeath their torsos
to unborn generations waiting
for fallen trunks ripe for suckling.

You fleck a poetic painting grandeur, Robert, and fill our minds with intriguing information as well! You are most definitely both poetically & enviormentally friendly, Mr. Howard! Solid Penning,as always ~FjR~
