Chemical Bonds

Your hangover is worse than any alcohol
More addictive than any pill
I come back time after time
Just to have my arms to fill

Pour me another drink
I'll empty another glass
Numbness bond to my DNA
The room spins and I collapse

All doubts have been forgotten
Only liquid ether in my veins
A single resonance of your touch
Ushered by the whisper of your name

I lose myself in uncertainty
Let go and sink beneath
You may cradle my body gently
But my heart is between your teeth

Bottle our tears and ire
And let them ferment with time
Hide it until we meet again
And share another bottle of wine

"...Bottle our tears and ire And let them ferment with time..." Lines like this take the poem into the realm of domestic violence. This is a powerful and disturbing poem.

Good chemistry is hard to describe but it does create bonds
