(Get ready. This is a long piece.) This is from 2006. I was about as sad as a person can get and questioning God's love. This poem was His answer to me.
I was always told to be prepared,
For into each life must fall a little rain.
But not one person anywhere, ever,
Prepared me for this hurricane.
Anyone that would’ve assessed my life
And said, “A little rain …,”
Must’ve been a complete lunatic
Or totally insane.
But, then, I guess
I was crazy, too, ’cause of all I’d done and seen.
I no longer saw yellow or blue.
All I saw was green.
For when survival kicked itself in,
There was no middle ground.
One sad truth was all I knew;
My hopes and dreams were drowned.
That “middle green” is where I sat,
While merely coping was what to do.
Then, years went by and I said to myself,
“Your reflection is no longer you.”
“Oh no!” I said when I saw that one
Staring back at me.
“The one I knew was not like that.
Who the hell is she?”
A while more passed to reach the point
Of asking what to do,
But, when I did, You were there
With an ever soft, “I'm here for you.”
“Come with Me and read My words,
For they always will stand tall!
I have been here with you, child,
And seen you through it all.”
“Who was that?”
I said in somewhat of a fright.
“I’ve not heard Him since I was a child,
On a dark and stormy night.”
And, so, I knew all at once.
It had all come into view.
My struggles started long ago,
But He told me what to do.
I was not left all alone
To make it through the storm.
I was given opportunity
To let strength and wisdom form.
He does not blame me for running away;
I did not have the skills.
My troubled life had taught me …
It’s love like that which kills!
But He did not leave me, either.
He waited patiently by.
For He knew the best time to reach me
Was when I’d sit and cry.
Life had become all crying,
And I thought that it was bad.
But, then He spoke up with powerful words,
“My child, why are you sad?”
“For I am here to help you,
And now you hear me say,
I love you, daughter. I really do.
Please, don’t run away.”
“It’s when you’re tired and broken
And waiting impatiently,
That I can finally step in and say,
my child, come and follow Me!”
“I am your salvation
And everlasting life.
But, if you will follow me while on Earth,
I’ll also be your light.”
“I’ll guide your way; I’ll clear your path.
I’ll plan out what to do.
I’ll even work it into truth;
I need no help from you.”
“Trust Me and believe Me.
I’ll never let you down.
I won’t even let one hair on your head
Be put upon the ground.”
“But here’s the thing I tell you, child.
Listen and be still.
I know all that is true and right,
But I gave you free will.”
“I love you even when you pull away,
But hear Me and take heed.
When you do things on your own
Is when you’ll fall and bleed.”
“So walk with Me and talk with Me.
Try not to go astray.
But when you do, just come to Me.
Tomorrow is a new day.”
“Always come back to Me, child;
For all I say and do
Is a part of everything!
(Including all of you!)”
I was always told to be prepared,
For into each life must fall a little rain.
But now I want to also share
the rainbow after the hurricane.
this is a very heartfelt write. beautiful.
