Whilst discussing poetry with a person who isn't really interested in it, she asked me why I loved it so much. I said how you could write poetry about any subject and in so many ways. She challenged me to write a poem about a peg - this was my attempt!! Hope it brings a smile

THE PEG ON THE LINE

A lonely peg up on the line
Rest at last, a day’s work done
All day long he had struggled and fought
To keep the sheet up, basking in the sun

“Hold on to me” the flapping sheet had called
“Don’t let me fall upon the ground”
So the little peg held on with all his might
He didn’t know where this strength he’d found.

As the big sheet soared towards the sky
Enjoying the wind through every thread
The poor little peg twisted and turned
And firmly held that sheet, from the bed.

So the next time you see a lonesome peg
Don’t just ignore it and hurry by
Take him in and know his worth
As without the peg your washing won’t dry
