Father and son by Paula Marina

Show Me Love.

Take me aside and show me love
that over-rides doubt,
and is non-judgemental.

A love that finds ways
of refusing to fight,
believes in providing reasons
for misbehaviour and,
yes, prays for both victim
and perpetrator.

Love like this exists,
and survives to relieve
hidden pain, so I say again.

Show me love that outshines hate,
and above all,
a love that dares to forgive
and reprieve.

Faces life with understanding,
feels delight
in all that is worthy
of being thought good.

Many harsh words and hurts
fail to ignite
If shown bountiful love
and fed love's food.

Show don't tell, yeah, that's the way to know. Another fine poem you've penned here, I enjoyed reading it.

I am reminded of M Scott Peck's 'The Road Less Traveled' when I read your insightful and compassionate words. In his chapter on love he refers to it as a verb - a doing word. Like Peck, you get under the skin of love and reveal it in all its truth, not as some sort of Hallmark Greeting Card homily, but as a state of grace, that shows itself in action. Your final stanza is particularly compelling - and true! Great poem. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

As you so often do, Fay, your words cut to the heart of a subject and express it vividly in your marvellous poetry, creating a beautiuful poem along the way. I agree with Susan in that the world would be more united if we as people understood that love is truly universal and has no bounds. Carl.

This philosophical poem speaks of an all embracing, unconditional love that eludes most people. If only we could all understand such a concept, the world would be united. What a beautiful thought, what a wonderful poem. :)
