The Heart of the Land by Steve Slimm

Awakens the Night.

Dark fast errupts with decisive lust,
locks in skybound eyesight
between banks of cloud.
and blocks all sight of the sun.

Dusk folds tight early twilight's hold,
attacks any view
of homecoming bird flight
and wraps shadows in black gold.

Night comes awake and strikes daylight,
Cuts late shine from
evening's nocturnal edges
and shuts darkness in tightly.

Wonderful strong imagery and as I read your words and look at the picture above, I feel the lust blocking out the sun and see the black gold wrapping the shadows. The last stanza is an example of such fine writing, as evening shutting darkness in tightly, bids me the satisfied reader goodbye to a stunning poem.

Brilliant imagery. A stunningly descriptive work which demonstrates your amazing perception and attention to detail. "Cuts late shine from evenings nocturnal edges" has a poetic eloquence all of its own. Best Steve

Some stunning imagery in this fine poem, Fay; '...wraps shadows in black gold' being my favourite. Superb! :)
