Conch shell on beach 2 by johnkostick

Seaside Memory

I found a Conch wedged in the sand,
held it tenderly in trembling hands,
washed it in the foaming sea
then carried it along the shore with me.

How many decades since youthfully,
we explored our love beside the sea
with laughter's echoes among the dunes
and serenading sea gull tunes?

So swiftly did those warm wet days
go by with each new crash of waves,
leaving us with sad September
and only love's sweet breath to remember.

Flowing memories like sea grasses tall
and swaying with the winds of fall
that left the boardwalk silent and still
against the purple sunset's chill.

On that eve of summer's sad farewell
you lovingly gave to me a shell
whose music only those in love could hear
with sea mists taste of salty tear.

A private memory, one shell found by the sea reminding you of one given by a lover, and bringing all the thoughts back so vividly, beautifully expressed so that we can all share it.
