I Know Why Adam

I know why Adam chose to go with Eve,
To stay beside the one he'd come to love,
Though he believed that Life and Death's incision
Hung in the balance of his imminent decision.

He took and ate the offering from his Mate.
In Life, in Death, the two were mated,
And for all time, their seed was fated...
Deadly plantation of love and sin,
This Reaper's Field we're living in.

Before he damns him,
I believe,
A man must stand in Adam's skin
And gaze at Eve.

This is an excellent poem, I like the last stanza especially.

Everyone has an "Eve" they have chosen over God. For some she is money, others power or fame. Adam's Eve just happen to be beautiful, naked and holding food...I believe in free will, but seems to me the deck was stacked

A master plan I believe Eve had to deal with Adam's lust an' we all have his DNA...regards

Interesting responses! I think Eleanor has a point, but history is history.... I think this dilemma is the source of the great war between predestinationists and free-willers..... I don't pretend to be the great riddle solver on this conundrum. Still, Eleanor's idea is interesting.

Interesting... and from our human point of view, understandable... but I'm feeling rather sad that such a thing, as ravishing a moment as that would have been, could have been placed ahead of all we have to contend with today... Surely another Eve would have been supplied had Adam thought some more...

Much agreed my friend. In fact, I'll bet Eve was the hottest cutie on earth at the time. A great poem indeed.
