New Glasses of Love

I got my new glasses yesterday
and it takes a while
to become accustomed to them.
But now everything is in sharp focus
as though the gentle smearing
of a dream was lifted
and now everything is crisp and clear:
Strangely the unreality of this creation
is more apparent
than in the fuzzy world before.
Now, seeing clearly, each and every thing
at rest in an ocean of love.
Lenses of purity
from the optometrist
of everlasting compassion
proclaiming I am very free indeed.

Dear David, // I wear glasses, and have never considered opting for contact lenses. I know that I owe to God my eyesight; but I owe to human intelligence and science its sharp clarity. (Of course, human intelligence we owe to God, too.) // When I was very young, I got hold of a religious tract that said we don't need to wear glasses, and I stopped wearing them. As time went by, I thought I really didn't need them. Then, one day, months later, I put them on again. Suddenly I could see in the clarity you describe; and I realized that when I had thought I didnt need glasses, it was only that I hadn't gotten used to being without them. // People helping people--the "everlasting compassion"--that is what just might save the world. // Good poem, fellow poet. --Michael

A fabulous poem that any jam jar officiando is surely bound to adore David! You've seen straight through to the experience of spectacle wearers worldwide! How well I know this feeling! It's like stepping into a bright new world! Dazzling and confusing and wholly disorientating for a while. Now I am 41 (shhh!), my age related long sight is reversing my eye-related short sight, so If I can make it to about 150 years old, I can throw away the specs I've worn since I was six! :) But I'm not holding my breath! :) This is bookmarked! I would double bookmark it if I could! :) kath xxx
