An Arboreal Dirge

Twisted branches,
mutilated bark,
exposed roots,
scattered leaves,
withered flowers.

Blood oozing
from the bark
is seen even
in the dark.

Is there so much
space crunch
in the city
that one more
tree must be axed?

Few trees
in the vicinity
have been
spared for now.

They seem to sing in unison:
"Here lie the mortal remains
of our poor, century-old fellow tree
that lie in vain -
because of
some humans gone insane".
